Leela Palace New Delhi Hotel – “most expensive hotel ever built in India.”
The brand new Leela Palace New Delhi Hotel is sending out press releases declaring that it is the “most expensive hotel ever built in India.” It’s also the first hotel built from the ground up in the city in nearly thirty years.
So naturally, we’re dying to know what’s inside…
The eleven story, two hundred sixty room hotel features some of the city’s largest guest rooms, beginning at five hundred fifty square feet in size, dazzling Murano chandeliers imported from Italy, hand-woven carpets from Turkey, and an opulent, five million dollar collection of traditional and contemporary art from India’s most well renowned artists.
Of all the magnificently appointed rooms, we have a particular interest in the eighteen spacious suites, and the six-room Maharajah Suite, which includes its own private elevator, gym and spa room, and use of a chauffeured Rolls-Royce Phantom. Not to mention the Bose iPod docks, mirrored Sony high definition LCD TV’s with Blu-Ray, and spa mood lighting in the bathrooms that come standard in all hotel guest rooms.
And the cuisine? It aims to impress with five restaurants on-site including an outpost of Le Cirque set to open in June, and an outpost of one of Japan’s Megu restaurants scheduled for an opening in July. Rounding out the services are a 6,500 square foot ESPA, a heated rooftop infinity pool, and an outdoor event space with a tropical garden. Hotel concierges are also on hand to arrange some ridiculuxe services including a private fitting with one of India’s top designers or a quick private jet ”field trip” to the Taj Mahal.
Also noteworthy, the hotel isn’t just about over the top excess. The hotel meets all standards for Gold LEED certification thanks in large part to a 24-hour gas-fired generator set, an innovative in-house rainwater harvesting project, and an on-site water treatment plant which is configured to recycle one hundred percent of the hotel’s “used” water.
Another nice little surprise? Rates are quasi-affordable at the hotel with the title of most expensive ever built in India. Right now, the hotel is offering a special grand opening rate of about three hundred twenty five dollars pernight. Just don’t forget to pack the Ambien for the 15 hour flight…
