Haleakala Volcano in Maui

Talking BHP&H’s to a new height: 10.032 at the summit of Haleakala Volcano on Maui for some long exposure night, star, moon-set, top of clouds, crater and sunrise photography by Michael R. Sikov.

With temperatures in the upper 20′s its a far cry from the tropical beaches and 80 degree weather 10,023 feet below. The photos with stars and what looks like the sun is actually a nearly full moon around 3:30AM. The red line across the horizon in one of the photos is about 3 hours before sunrises and is not visible to the naked eye. Its the sun rising over the middle of North America and bouncing off the earths atmosphere.
