Pop-Out Painter

The next time you stroll through an art gallery and think that some of the paintings look real enough to come to life right before your eyes, you might be on to something.

In Washington DC, 23 year old artist Alexa Meade has created a series of what she has dubbed “pop-out” paintings, in which she coats real life models with color so that they blend in perfectly with her painted canvas backdrops. Her creations consist of an “underlayer” of base colors and a more detailed top layer which accounts for the final, “living” picture. As long as the models stay still, it is easy to perceive them as part of the picture. But when they get up and walk out of the painting, the effect is impressive and undeniably cool.
