This amazing image, taken by a Russian photographer somewhere in the mid west, is the closet thing we’ve ever seen to an apocalyptic message from above, or an extraterrestrial visit veiled by a column of ominous clouds.

Who knew that grains of sand could give snowflakes an artistic and aesthetic run for their money?
